Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Polysomnography Tech 3 in Taylor, TX, to coordinate the Sleep Laboratory’s daily operations. The role involves monitoring lab quality, policies, and equipment performance, and educating patients about sleep disorders and treatments.

The position requires 3 years of experience in polysomnography, BLS certification, and PRO/POLYTECH credentials. A full-time night shift with 12-hour shifts is offered with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification.
• 3 years of experience in polysomnography or sleep lab setting.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and POLYTECH certification.

Responsibilities

• Performs polysomnographic studies in a clinical setting and titrations.
• Scores studies and drafts reports for physician interpretation.
• Communicates results to patients, families, and physicians.
• Maintains and calibrates sleep lab equipment; troubleshoots as needed.
• Trains new Sleep Lab staff and supports quality improvement.

Job Summary

The Polysomnography Technologist 3 coordinates the Sleep Laboratory's daily operations. They monitor Sleep Lab quality, policies, procedures, staff, and equipment performance. They communicate and educate patients and families about sleep disorders and treatments. They consult with referring physicians about patient results.

Essential Functions Of The Role

• Performs polysomnographic studies in a clinical setting, including oxygen and nasal continuous positive airway pressure titrations.
• Scores studies and formulates reports for physician interpretation. Documents all pertinent patient events according to department policy.
• Communicates instructions, results and relative information to patients, physicians and family members.
• Calibrates and performs routine maintenance on equipment. Troubleshoots and contacts manufacturers for repairs as needed. Notifies proper personnel for equipment problems. Cleans all equipment to ensure infection control.
• Consults regularly with the Medical Director regarding patient studies.
• Maintains standards for completeness of Continuous Quality Improvement and Quality Control measurements.
• Orient and trains new Sleep Lab employees.
• Establishes and implements performance improvements including education and staff development.
• Communicates concerns and/or problems with possible solutions to the Department Manager or Director.
• Maintains a current and complete Policy and Procedure Manual.

Key Success Factors

• Advanced knowledge of Polysomnographic Care modalities, therapies, equipment and medications.
• Must be able to read, write and follow flow chart protocols as appropriate.
• Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both orally and in writing.
• Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
• Must have critical thinking and problem solving skills.
• Ability to follow established safety, infection control, and isolation procedures at all times.
• Able to proportion multiple demands and respond to time constraints.
• Ability to maintain and troubleshoot audio and video equipment.
• Advanced computer skills, including but not limited to data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning and email.
