Job description

SHIFT & COMPENSATION

Night Shift (3 12‑hour shifts; possible weekend rotation)

Department: Sleep Disorder Center

  • Base Pay Range: $19.15 - $30.23 per hour, based on experience
  • Shift Differentials:
    • Additional $2.00 per hour for evening shift
    • Additional $4.00 per hour for night shift
    • Additional $3.00 per hour for weekend shift
  • Retention Rewards: Up to $15,000
    • Relocation Support: Additional $5,000 if moving from over 50 miles away
    • Retention Reward (Option 1): $2,000 per year for up to 5 years, totaling $10,000
    • Student Loan Repayment (Option 2): $2,000 per year toward student loans, up to 5 years, totaling $10,000
  • Note: Details will be provided during the HR interview. Policy language is available upon request.
ABOUT THE JOB

M.U. Health Care is looking for a dedicated Polysomnographic Technician to make a significant impact in our Sleep Disorder Center. As a Polysomnographic Technician, you will play a crucial role in diagnosing sleep disorders by performing and evaluating overnight polysomnograms. Operating complex medical equipment, you will record sleep and wake physiology, ensuring patient safety and comfort.

The ideal candidate possesses excellent communication skills to explain test procedures to patients and address their psychological needs throughout the study, ensuring high-quality results. Collaborating closely with medical professionals, you will record, score, and communicate sleep/wake outcomes, adapting techniques for optimal patient outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Explain test procedures to patients prior to studies and address psychological needs to obtain quality test results.
  • Differentiate quality of procedure and patient cooperation for interpretive analysis.
  • Record and score sleep/wake results.
  • Communicate patient's psychological status and environmental conditions during the procedure to the physician for consideration in interpreting test results.
  • Adapt test methods and instrumentation to obtain optimal patient results.
  • Clean, calibrate, and process sleep equipment and sensors. Report equipment and supply needs to leadership.
  • Recognize medically emergent situations and take appropriate actions.
  • Complete necessary documentation and billing.
  • Perform limited office, secretarial, and patient transport duties.
  • Meet all Patient Family Centered Care standards and patient experience goals.
  • May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.
  • One (1) year of sleep polysomnography experience or completion of a sleep program.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from a sleep program or an associate's degree in a science or health related field.
  • Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The role is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. The position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
