Job summary

Kootenai Health in Idaho offers a full-time Sleep Technologist student position under supervision to provide comprehensive diagnostic sleep services, including in-lab PSG and home sleep apnea testing, with hands-on training toward the RPSGT credential.

You will perform diagnostic tests such as CPAP titrations, participate in quality improvements, and ensure patient safety and education. Candidates pursuing BRPT credentials with BLS are preferred.

Qualifications

  • BLS required.
  • Completion of ASTEP Program coursework.
  • Eligible for BRPT RPSGT credential within 18 months of hire.
  • Must obtain BRPT RPSGT credential within 36 months of hire.
  • Prior healthcare related experience preferred.

  • Performs diagnostic testing for sleep disorders including PSG, CPAP/Bi-level titration, MSLT, oral appliance titration, and oxygen titration.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and ensures compliance with Sleep Medicine facility standards.
  • Ensures health, comfort, and safety of patients.
  • Collects and transports biological specimens for analysis.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and complete goals.

Position Summary

As a student, this position works under the general supervision of the facility medical director and a Registered Sleep Technologist to provide quality and comprehensive diagnostic sleep services. Includes the evaluation of sleep disorders through both in lab and home sleep apnea testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. This position will complete hands‑on training and clinical experience required to be eligible to sit for the registry exam for Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT) — the gold standard in sleep technology.

Responsibilities
  • Performs diagnostic testing for sleep disorders including baseline diagnostic polysomnograms (PSG), positive airway pressure titrations (CPAP, Bi-level PAP, AVAPs, ASV), multiple sleep latency (MSLT), titration of oral devices for OSA, and supplemental oxygen titration
  • Participates in performance improvement activities, design to evaluate and improve services, and ensure compliance with the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s facility standards
  • Ensures the health, comfort, and safety of patients
  • Collects and transports biological specimens for analysis
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of coursework in ASTEP Program required
  • Must be eligible for Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist BRPT RPSGT credential within 18 months of hire
  • Must obtain Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists BRPT RPSGT credential within 36 months of hire
  • Prior healthcare related experience preferred
  • BLS required
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to assist in patient transfer
  • Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
  • Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend
  • Must be able to reach arms above or below shoulder height
  • Typical equipment used in a clinical job
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 35 lbs
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids, etc.
