Job summary

Exponent is hiring a Scientist/Associate for our Polymer and Chemistry Practice in Philadelphia, PA. The role requires a Ph.D. or equivalent, extensive knowledge of macromolecules, and hands-on experience with analytical techniques.

You will work with cross-disciplinary scientists and may travel to collaborate with other offices. Strong communication and leadership are essential. The position emphasizes practical problem solving, data interpretation, and peer collaboration as you build

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with macromolecules and associated characterization techniques.
• Experience with FTIR, DSC, TGA, DMA, Fractography, Chromatography and Microscopy (optical and electron based techniques).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong teamwork and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Inspections, scientific analysis, and testing to understand the performance of material systems and the processes by which they are made.
• Following established test protocols, or in their absence, developing new test protocols to characterize materials.
• Performing root cause investigations on failing or underperforming materials/components by examining development, manufacturing, and end-use environments.
• Gather information from and convey technical conclusions to individuals in engineering, business, law, and industry.
