Job summary

SLB is seeking a Materials/Mechanical Engineer for the Sustaining team in the United States to develop and evaluate polymeric materials and processes, providing consultation to product groups on materials issues.

Responsibilities include applying technical knowledge to projects, evaluating material data, and supporting manufacturing. Requires 4–6 years in polymers with a BS/MS/PhD in Materials Science.

Qualifications

• Minimum BS, MS or PhD in Materials Science or related field.
• 4–6 years experience in materials science with polymer emphasis.
• Strong knowledge of polymer structure–function and rheology.
• Experience with polymer manufacturing processes (compounding, extrusion, molding).

Responsibilities

• Apply technical knowledge to projects on materials and processing issues.
• Provide material consultation for selection, property data, and failure avoidance.
• Develop polymer compounds via internal mixing and evaluate rheology and properties.
• Support polymer manufacturing processes at production centers.
• Perform failure analysis and data analysis to improve products.
• Design test plans and lead validation testing for materials.
• Write materials specifications and standards.
• Interface with suppliers and subcontractors on material activities.
