Vox, based in Washington, D.C. or New York, seeks an experienced editor to oversee its political coverage. The role leads a team of reporters, developing original reporting and sharp analysis for Vox’s audience across multimedia platforms.

The editor will guide coverage with urgency and ambition, manage deadlines, and collaborate with senior editors to shape rigorous, contextual journalism that informs and engages readers across Vox’s portfolio.

Qualifications

• 5 years’ editing experience.
• Strong leadership, management, communication, and editing skills.
• Excellent news judgment with ability to bring analysis and sharp angles to news stories.
• Analytical rigor: pressure-test arguments and consider opposing views.
• Passion for Vox’s mission of explanatory journalism.

Responsibilities

• Manage and lead a team of 3-4 reporters to conceive, assign, and edit pieces rooted in reporting and research.
• Guide Vox’s political coverage with a clear hand and vision, staying on top of the news to find fresh angles that will lead to distinctive journalism.
• Collaborate closely with Vox’s other senior politics and policy editors, delivering a rich and compelling political report across platforms.
• Shape stories and broader coverage plans to be rigorous, compelling, and aligned with Vox’s editorial strategy and audience goals.
• Find opportunities to elevate the team’s work on other platforms, including audio, video, and social video.
• Work closely with colleagues in politics, the executive editor, and the managing editor for audience and membership to connect to Vox’s broader strategy.
