Job summary

Vox Media is seeking an experienced editor to oversee its politics coverage and lead a team of reporters in Washington, DC or New York. The editor will drive original reporting, sharp analysis, and ambitious, audience-focused coverage across Vox’s multimedia platforms.

The role demands a strong editor with a track record of timely, rigorous journalism and a passion for explaining complex policy issues to a wide audience. This position reports to the executive editor and is based in NYC or DC.

Qualifications

• 5 years’ experience editing
• Strong leadership, management, communication, and editing skills
• Excellent news judgment and a demonstrated ability to bring analysis and sharp angles to news stories
• Analytical rigor. We want an editor with the ability to pressure-test arguments and take opposing ones seriously.
• Passion for Vox’s mission of serving the audience and making complex concepts accessible through explanatory journalism

Responsibilities

• Manage and lead a team of 3-4 reporters to conceive, assign, and edit pieces rooted in reporting and research.
• Guide Vox’s political coverage with a clear hand and vision, staying on top of the news to find fresh angles.
• Collaborate closely with Vox’s other senior politics and policy editor and other Vox editors across platforms.
• Shape stories and broader coverage plans to ensure rigor and alignment with Vox’s strategy and audience goals.
• Find opportunities to elevate the team’s work on audio, video, and social formats.
• Work with colleagues to connect editorial approach to Vox’s broader membership strategy
