Job summary

The University of Connecticut invites applications for an Associate Director to work with the Connecticut Sentencing Commission and the Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy (IMRP). You will lead professional staff, coordinate research projects, manage staff resources, solicit grants, and oversee Commission activities.

The role requires strategic leadership and collaboration with executives to advance research, education, and policy initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public administration, law, criminology, sociology, economics, political science, or related field; six years of relevant experience; two years as advanced team member or project lead.
• Experience in criminal justice policy and sentencing practices, including familiarity with state and federal sentencing laws.
• Organizational/administrative skills: budget development, grant management, coordination of multi-agency partnerships.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; liaison to government agencies, legislators, academics, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and administer the Connecticut Sentencing Commission; ensure compliance with laws and budgets.
• Plan and direct research, evaluation, and monitoring activities; report developments nationwide.
• Direct day-to-day operation; oversee activities and logistics; prepare reports.
• Oversee writing and editing of Commission documents, including legislative drafting.
• Develop memoranda of understanding with partnering entities.
• Engage in public relations and recruitment/promotional activities.
