Job summary

Geronimo Power is seeking a Policy Manager – Midwest to lead state regulatory and legislative activities across an assigned portfolio. You will partner with internal teams, lobbyists, legislators, associations, and industry partners to shape policy strategies that advance business objectives and mitigate risk.

You will coordinate federal activities with our lobbying firm, influence regulatory and legislative meetings, and manage relationships with key state influencers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in policy, business, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in an energy-related regulatory and/or legislative environment.
  • Established relationships within the assigned state portfolio and ability to expand the network over time.
  • Knowledge of electric utility regulation, renewable energy, energy facility permitting, and related matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage external lobbyists and third-party partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong agility, good judgment, and adaptability to evolving business needs.
  • Commitment to continuous learning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a strategic legislative and regulatory vision for each state within the portfolio with management and lobbyists.
  • Collaborate with lobbyists, legislators, trade organizations, and stakeholders to advance value-adding legislation and oppose risks.
  • Monitor and report on state Public Utilities Commission regulatory activities (excluding project permitting dockets).
  • Lead state legislative engagement across the portfolio, including meetings with officials and staff.
  • Coordinate federal activities affecting states with the company’s lobbying firm, including meetings with federal officials.
  • Present at and influence regulatory and legislative meetings shaping policy, excluding permitting dockets.
  • Identify, vet, contract with, and manage state lobbying firms; adjust as needed.
  • Set expectations for lobbyists to monitor legislative activity, provide strategic insight, and cultivate relationships with influencers.
  • Represent Geronimo Power on policy-focused task forces, trade associations, and advisory committees.
  • Build relationships with industry counterparts and collaborate on cross-industry policy approaches.
  • Collaborate with Development, Permitting, Community Engagement, Finance, Investment, Procurement, and External Affairs to align policy with priorities.
  • Manage a flexible state portfolio; current states include Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, with Wyoming monitoring.
  • Travel frequently within the assigned state portfolio.

About This Role

The Policy Manager – Midwest leads state regulatory, state legislative, and coordinated federal legislative activities across an assigned portfolio of states. This role partners with internal stakeholders, external lobbyists, legislators, trade organizations, and industry partners to develop and execute policy strategies that advance Geronimo Power’s business objectives, create value, and mitigate legislative and regulatory risk.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a strategic legislative and regulatory vision for each state within the assigned portfolio in partnership with the direct manager, team members, and lobbyists.
  • Work with lobbyists, legislators, trade organizations, and other stakeholders to advance legislation that creates business value andopposelegislation that presents business risk.
  • Monitor, report on, and lead applicable state Public UtilitiesCommissionregulatory activities, excluding project permitting dockets.
  • Lead state legislative engagement across the assigned portfolio, including meetings with elected officials and their staff.
  • Coordinate federal activities affecting assigned states with the company’s federal lobbying firm, including support for meetings involving federal officials and company executives.
  • Participate in, present at, and influence regulatory and legislative meetings and proceedings that shape policy affecting the business, excluding project permitting dockets.
  • Identify, vet, contract with, and manage state lobbying firms, including making changes when performance or business needs require it.
  • Set expectations for lobbyists tomonitorand report legislative activity promptly,providestrategic insight, and cultivate relationships with key state influencers.
  • Represent Geronimo Power on policy-focused task forces, trade associations, and advisory committees.
  • Build strong relationships with industry counterparts and collaborate on cross-industry policy approaches whenappropriate.
  • Collaborate with Development, Permitting, Community Engagement, Finance, Investment, Procurement, and External Affairs colleagues to align policy work with company priorities.
  • Manage a flexible state portfolio based on business priority, need, and capacity. The current portfolio includes Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana, with Wyoming monitoring.
  • Travelfrequentlywithin the assigned state portfolio.
What You’ll Bring
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in policy, business, or a similar discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in an energy-related regulatory and/or legislative environment.
  • Established relationships within the assigned state portfolio, with the ability to expand the network over time.
  • Knowledge of laws and rules related to electric utility regulation, renewable energy, energy facility permitting, and other electric generation matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage external lobbyists and other third-party partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong agility, sound judgment, and willingness to adjust priorities as business needs evolve.

Pay Range for the posted level: $135,000 – $160,000 plus target annual bonus opportunity of 15%. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and demonstrated market-relevant expertise.
