Job summary

Vox Media seeks an experienced editor to oversee policy coverage in a changing America. You will lead a team of multiplatform journalists, guiding sharp, original angles across text, podcasts, and video for Vox’s engaged audience.

The editor will manage reporting, maintain rigorous standards, and drive editorial plans that intersect technology, religion, and social policy. This role is based in Washington, D.C. or New York and reports to the executive editor.

Qualifications

• 5 years’ experience editing.
• Strong leadership and management capabilities.
• Excellent news judgment and ability to bring sharp angles to stories.
• Analytical rigor and willingness to pressure-test arguments.
• Passion for explanatory journalism and Vox’s mission.
• Ability to collaborate across Vox’s multimedia newsroom.

Responsibilities

• Manage and lead a team of 4–5 reporters to conceive, assign, and edit pieces rooted in reporting and research.
• Guide Vox’s policy coverage with clear vision and fresh angles.
• Collaborate with editors across platforms to deliver a rich political report.
• Shape stories and coverage plans to be rigorous, compelling, and aligned with Vox’s strategy.
• Coordinate with other teams to sharpen stories for audio, video, and social formats.
• Work with policy and politics colleagues to connect editorial approach to Vox’s broader strategy.
