Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a policy professional to develop and coordinate policy initiatives. Responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and implementing policies, performing related research, and providing guidance to agency staff and external stakeholders.

The role requires familiarity with policy processes, strong writing and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple policy projects while maintaining compliance with GA-01.01 and related regulations.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant program experience.
• 3 years of supervisory experience.
• An associate's degree and 1 year of supervisory experience.
• A bachelor’s degree may substitute for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides technical and professional services for policy development.
• Coordinates policy implementation and updates to policy websites, implementation and operation.
• Assists in the drafting and developing of new policies and policy modifications.
• Conducts research on policy related issues and provides results to agency managers.
• Provides policies to outside counsel, other state agencies and the public through subpoenas, FOIA, etc.
• Ensures policies and forms are in compliance with SCDC policy GA-01.01.
• Reviews policies under the mental health lawsuit before processing.
• Implements a policy monitoring system and manages monthly reviews.
• Responds to requests to staff member forms and the automated staff member system.
• Position requires daily contact with inmates.
