Anthropic is seeking a Policy Design Manager for Integrity and Authenticity to translate risk frameworks into clear, enforceable policies addressing deception, surveillance, and profiling at scale. You will own policy language and collaborate with Engineering, Legal, Threat Intelligence, and Policy teams across multiple offices.
The role emphasizes rigorous policy writing, cross-functional engagement, and guidance on complex edge cases, with safety as a core priority in shaping governance for AI
San Francisco, CA | New York City, NY | Washington, DC
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
As an Integrity and Authenticity Policy Manager, you will be responsible for developing, refining, and maintaining policies that prevent the misuse of AI systems for deception, manipulation, and unauthorized monitoring at scale. You will serve as the policy owner for risks related to inauthentic behavior, influence activity, surveillance, and the profiling of individuals and groups, and you will help shape policy frameworks across several areas, including authenticity, information integrity, and privacy and surveillance.
Your initial focus will be on translating the Integrity and Authenticity risk framework into clear, enforceable policies, ensuring policy language addresses emerging threats identified by partner teams, and establishing guidelines that enable consistent enforcement decisions. Many of the most serious harms in this space begin with upstream steps that look routine on their own, such as compiling records about a person, automating account creation, or sorting users by inferred identity. Part of your work will be defining where those steps become prohibited. The role will expand as AI capabilities advance. Safety is core to our mission. You will help ensure our products cannot be used to deceive people at scale, monitor and profile people without their knowledge or consent, or sort and target populations based on sensitive characteristics.
The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.
For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.
$245,000 - $285,000 USD
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.
