Job summary

City of Imperial is seeking a Police Recruit in a non-sworn training role. Trainees will gain practical field experience while paired with a Training Officer and work toward successful completion of the POST Basic Academy.

New hires will hold Police Recruit status during training, with eligibility for promotion after academy completion. The role emphasizes observation, fitness, and disciplined adherence to department procedures.

Qualifications

• Enroll in and successfully graduate from a California POST Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
• Pass all required physical, psychological, and agility examinations.
• Demonstrate progress in learning firearms proficiency and defensive tactics.
• Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Relate tactfully with diverse populations and maintain professional conduct.

Responsibilities

• Enroll in and graduate from the POST Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
• Attend POST Academy classes, testing, and training modules.
• Participate in departmental orientation, fitness training, and basic skills drills.
• Learn first aid and CPR to assist injured persons until professionals arrive.
• Ride along with sworn officers to observe investigations and incidents.
• Identify safety hazards and report them to supervisors as required.
• Follow academy and departmental rules and regulations; perform training duties.
