Job summary

City of Pacific Grove's Police Department seeks a trainee to begin as a non-sworn recruit, entering POST-certified academy training. This entry-level role emphasizes learning under supervision, with eventual promotion to sworn officer upon successful completion. Trainees work under department policies and must complete tests and background checks.

You will join a dedicated team serving a community of 15,522 residents, with full support for safety initiatives and career development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age at appointment.
• Must be a U.S. citizen at appointment.
• Must possess a valid California Driver’s License.
• Must possess a High School diploma, a GED, or higher degree.
• Must be fingerprinted through local, state, and national systems.
• Must pass background investigation and polygraph.
• Must be free of conditions affecting peace officer powers.
• Must be willing to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must pass POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) and WSTB tests.

Responsibilities

• Attend a California POST basic police academy for training.
• During training, incumbents do not have police powers.
• Assist in Records, crime prevention, data collection, and transportation of people/materials.
• Promotion to sworn Police Officer requires successful academy completion and review.
• Upon promotion, begin a one-year probationary period.
