Description

Under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant, the Police Recruit candidate must be enrolled in a peace officer basic training program that meets the requirements of Ohio Revised Code Section 109.77 for Peace Officer Certification. Performs other work as requested.

Typical Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency.
• Must possess a valid Ohio Driver's License, have no felony convictions, be 21 years of age at the time of appointment, and be in the process of obtaining a State of Ohio Certification as a Police Officer.
• Requirements during the application process include application, background check, departmental interview, and pre-employment polygraph.

Supplemental Information

• Candidates must be enrolled in a peace officer basic training program that meets the requirements of Ohio Revised Code Section 109.77 for Peace Officer Certification.
• Ability to complete a physical fitness test and meet OPOTA’s physical fitness standards.
• Ability to maintain passing grades in the course curriculum including: Administration, Legal, Human Relations, Firearms, Driving, Subject Control Techniques, First Aid/CPR/AED, Patrol, Civil Disorders, Traffic, Investigation, Physical Conditioning, Homeland Security, Use of Taser/ASP/O.C., Single Officer Response to an Active Shooter, and other courses as required.
• Ability to maintain attendance per academy regulations.
• Ability to successfully complete basic academy and pass the state certification examination.
