Job description

The Police Operations Coordinator 1 position assists in overseeing, coordinating, and participating in the management of more complex and responsible clerical work for the records division or section of the Police Department. These duties often involve specialized procedures and skills, requiring initiative, independent reasoning, and judgment.

Must be able to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and change regular days off.

The current vacancy is in the Records Department, but this recruitment may be used to fill openings within other departments of MNPD.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) operates 24/7/365. Whether you are a sworn or civilian employee, you will be responsible for the general welfare of the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County. Responsibilities include:
  1. Assist with overseeing, coordinating, and participating in clerical work for the department.
  2. Assign, coordinate, and review work of others.
  3. Assist with training new employees.
  4. Coordinate work with other sections and divisions.
  5. Recommend and devise methods to improve workflow and office procedures.
  6. Handle difficult complaints and inquiries, both in person and by telephone.
  7. Complete, check, and process various forms and documents.
  8. Sort, check, code, and file correspondence and documents.
  9. Prepare reports for FBI and National Safety Council.
  10. Utilize advanced data entry techniques, code, classify, and enter reports.
  11. Communicate with the public and address questions regarding departmental policies and procedures.
  12. Receive payments and fines, and issue receipts.
  13. Assemble data and prepare reports using word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
  14. Maintain records such as personnel files, budget information, and financial documents.
  15. Handle complaints and inquiries in person and by phone.
  16. May be required to testify in court proceedings.
Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of increasingly responsible clerical experience, preferably in a public safety setting.

Additional education may be considered in lieu of some experience (1:1 ratio).

Licenses Required
  • Valid Driver License
  • NCIC Certification (must be obtained within six months of employment)
