Job summary

The City of Jacksonville's Police Department is growing and seeking Police Officer Trainees to attend Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) in January 2027. While in training, candidates will receive full salary and benefits.

Upon successful completion and certification, you will be promoted to Police Officer I. The role involves protective service work in a training capacity, enforcing laws, investigating crimes, controlling traffic, and preparing reports.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license is required.
• Ability to obtain Basic Law Enforcement certification in NC.

Responsibilities

• Assist fully qualified officers to observe for traffic violations, suspicious activity or disturbances.
• Collect evidence and conduct searches; investigate traffic accidents.
• Respond to radio dispatches, handle calls and complaints, issue citations and warrants.
• Provide police escorts and direct traffic; perform residential and commercial checks.
• Participate in in-service and specialized training programs.
• Respond to domestic disputes and assist other agencies when requested.
