Job summary

Town of Matthews seeks Police Officer Trainee (non-certified) to join the Matthews Police Department. You will undergo testing for the July 2026 BLET Academy with February/March 2026 exams. Upon certification and sworn status, officers receive a 5% base salary increase.

New hires may receive $2,000 on the first paycheck, with up to $3,000 more for prior related experience. Comprehensive benefits are provided during employment.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• High school graduate or GED.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record.

Responsibilities

• Patrol streets by car, bike, or on foot; inspect premises and report hazards.
• Respond to calls and take appropriate action.
• Investigate accidents and traffic incidents; issue citations.
• Conduct investigations, collect evidence, and present findings in court.
• Explain laws and ordinances to the public; assist and direct citizens.
