Job summary

City of Oakley is seeking Police Officer-Trainees to attend a POST-certified academy. Trainees are assigned to the academy and receive training to qualify for appointment as a Police Officer.

The position is at-will and limited-term during the academy. After academy completion, officers receive annual step increases and benefits including city-paid health and dental insurance, retirement, vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, and deferred comp.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 20.5 years at time of application submittal.
• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must have a valid California driver's license with a good driving record.
• Must pass POST-certified academy; polygraph, medical, psychological exams and background investigation.

Responsibilities

• Attend a certified academy designed to provide an overview of the criminal justice system.
• Undertake field training and academy activities including firearms instruction and court system overview.
• Write and edit police reports; perform public safety duties and respond to incidents.
