The Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) has openings for police officers year-round. The Department also fills non-sworn positions as needed.
The process to become a Winston-Salem Police Officer is challenging. There are several steps a successful applicant must complete before being invited to become a Winston-Salem Police Recruit.
Performs responsible protective service work in the prevention, detection, and investigation of law violations.
On an assigned shift, patrols designated areas to observe violations of laws, suspicious activities, and disturbances; responds to dispatch calls; makes arrests; provides escorts; directs traffic; investigates accidents; assists injured individuals; reports unsafe conditions; conducts criminal investigations; prepares reports; testifies in court; and performs related duties.
High school diploma or GED equivalency.
Work Schedule: Rotating/Shift Hours.
There is a 12-month probationary period with performance evaluations at 6 months and at the end of probation.
