Job summary

Hawthorne Police Department is seeking Police Officer Recruits to join the training academy and begin a career in law enforcement. Recruits will participate in a POST-certified basic academy and receive a salary during the program.

Upon successful completion, recruits are eligible for appointment as a sworn Police Officer. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, California driver’s license, and passing a comprehensive background check with POST standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• College level training desirable and encouraged after appointment.
• Must be at least 21 years old upon graduation from the academy.
• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License may be required based on assignment.
• Successful background investigation including polygraph and meeting POST standards is required.

Responsibilities

• Investigates crimes.
• Arrests suspects and assists in booking and processing offenders.
• Receives and documents citizen complaints.
• Patrols public areas to identify and address suspicious or disorderly activity.
• Prepares clear, accurate, and thorough written reports.
