Minimum Qualifications
- Colorado P.O.S.T. certification, peace officer certification from another state, or currently attending a Colorado P.O.S.T. Approved Academy.
- Must complete an online application and the Police Officer Written Exam (NTN).
- Applicants who have completed the NTN test within the past year should notify a recruiter via email.
- Applicants are responsible for all transfer fees of NTN scores.
Application and Testing Process
- Register and schedule your NTN exam at www.nationaltestingnetwork.com.
- Review the qualifications, respond at the bottom of the NTN page, and continue.
- Scores are automatically sent to the Englewood Police Department upon completion.
- Qualified candidates will be placed on the eligibility list for further steps.
Salary Step Increases (2024)
- Probationary Police Officer 5th class: $79,353
- Police Officer 4th class: $84,539
- Police Officer 3rd class: $92,834
- Police Officer 2nd class: $102,154
- Police Officer 1st class: $112,322
Lateral Entry Salary
Qualified lateral applicants will be hired at the Police Officer 1st Class salary.
Eligibility Criteria for Lateral Entry
- Current employment as a full-time police officer with a law enforcement agency.
- Possess a current P.O.S.T. certification or equivalent.
- Must have at least 3 years of patrol experience; academy training does not count towards this experience.
- Retired or laid-off officers must apply within 20 months, be in good standing, and hold current certification.
Position Summary & Responsibilities
The role involves patrol duties, responding to calls, investigations, evidence collection, traffic enforcement, arrests, court testimonies, report writing, community engagement, and other related duties.
Education & Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent plus 60 college credit hours, or 3 years patrol experience, or equivalent military service.
- Current P.O.S.T. certification or out-of-state certification with at least one year of recent service.
Additional Requirements
- Valid Colorado driver’s license.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and pass background checks.
- Willingness to undergo training and proficiency testing.
- Ability to work under stress and in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong conflict resolution and human relations skills.
