Job summary

The City of Covina is accepting applications for Pre-Service Police Officer to establish an eligibility list for future vacancies. This role covers patrol, investigation, traffic enforcement and community engagement within Covina’s police services.

Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma or equivalent, be 21 by sworn appointment, and either be CA POST Certified or enrolled in a CA POST Certified academy. A valid CA driver’s license and citizenship eligibility are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and be 21 years of age by sworn appointment.
• Graduate of a CA POST Certified Police Academy or currently enrolled in one.
• Possession of a valid CA driver’s license and a Basic POST Certificate.
• U.S. citizen or permanent resident eligible for citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned areas and conducts investigations, including follow-up inquiries.
• Enforces traffic laws and conducts accident investigations; manages crowd control and special events.
• Trains and assists less experienced personnel; may serve as Field Training Officer or in specialized programs.
• May serve as detective; coordinates investigations and handles evidence, warrants, and court testimony.
• Responds to public inquiries and establishes positive relationships with community and agencies.
