Job summary

Wilmington Police Department is hiring Police Officers. You will respond to calls for service, maintain a visible presence, investigate crimes, and support traffic and events to keep Wilmington neighborhoods safe.

The role requires NC BLET certification (or enrollment within 6 months) or two years of out-of-state sworn experience, U.S. citizenship, a high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver’s license. Lateral transfer incentives apply.

Qualifications

• 20 years of age at the time of application
• U. S. Citizen
• High School Diploma or GED
• North Carolina BLET certification or currently enrolled in a BLET program with expected graduation within 6 months; OR
• Two years, full-time, out-of-state sworn law enforcement experience and no more than 3 years break in service

Responsibilities

• Respond to citizen calls for service and provide a visible, reassuring presence.
• Investigate crimes and conduct security and traffic operations.
• Manage prisoner procedures and support special events.
• Operate communications systems and use protective and tactical equipment.
• Complete detailed documentation and navigate city streets.
• Assist with diverse situations from community concerns to animal removal.
