Responsibilities

• Patrol city streets, including businesses, residences and parking areas.

• Enforce all applicable city, state and federal laws.
• Investigate crimes and secure the scene to preserve evidence.
• Make arrests of individuals observed or suspected of crimes.

Under general supervision, officers patrol city streets, enforce local, state, and federal laws, maintain law and order, and protect life and property while deterring crime. Candidates for this recruitment must hold a prior police certification that the Maryland Police Training Commission accepts. The starting salary for this position is $65,741.68 - $88,351.32 annually, depending on experience. This position offers a competitive Hiring Bonus of $10,000. This will be paid out in 4 installments. $2,500 at the time of hire, $2,500 at the end of the first year of employment, $2,500 at the end of the second year and $2,500 at the end of the third of employment.

Typical Duties Include:

• Patrolling assigned area to include all public and private businesses, residences, parking areas, and streets.
• Directing vehicular traffic; enforcingtraffic laws; directing pedestrian traffic.
• Enforcingall applicable City, local, state, and federal laws.
• Investigatingcrimes; securingand protecting the scene of a crime and the immediate area surrounding the crime scene so that no evidence is disturbed.
• Making arrests of persons observed or suspected of committing crimes.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED; and,
• Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job;
• Maryland Police Certification.

Licenses and Certifications:

• State Certified Police Officer.If you were certified within the last 5 years, your certification will be reviewed to determine if you are per the current Maryland Police Training Commission standards.
• Valid State Driver's License. Firearms Qualification.

IMPORTANT – LATERAL APPLICANTS: This position is intended exclusively for individuals who currently hold a law enforcement certification or are eligible for certification through an approved reciprocity process. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications should apply for the Entry-Level Police Officer position instead. Non-certified applicants will not be considered for the lateral position.
