To qualify for our Lateral role, you must be employed as a full-time, sworn, law enforcement officer for at least 24 months within the last five years.

Applicants meeting minimum qualifications and completing the Public Safety Testing Personal History Questionnaire will be notified. The process includes an oral interview with a passing score of 70%. Applications are screened as openings occur, with required forms for veteran's preference and education.
Automatic disqualifiers include felony convictions, drug sales/use, dishonorable discharge, serious traffic violations, dishonesty, domestic violence, and sexual misconduct. Discretionary disqualifiers involve substance abuse, excessive violations, felony, financial irresponsibility, conduct that undermines trust, or inability to perform essential duties.

Qualified applicants will be invited for testing, including an oral interview, polygraph, psychological assessment, background check, drug screening, and medical exam. Requests for review or appeals must be submitted in writing to the Civil Service Commission.
Applicants failing any phase can reapply after 6 months; those failing the background after 18 months.
