Job summary

The Beaufort Police Department is seeking a full-time Cadet Police Officer to join our community-oriented team in Beaufort, North Carolina. The cadet will assist with traffic and criminal enforcement, emergency response, investigations, and special events while upholding public safety and community policing principles.

Applicants must meet pre-hire requirements including a background check, physical, drug test, and enrollment in Basic Law Enforcement Training.

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license at appointment.
• Pre-hire background investigation, physical and drug test required.
• Orientation and field training program prior to permanent sworn assignment.
• Eligible for immediate placement in Basic Law Enforcement Training.

Responsibilities

• Provide police services including traffic enforcement and criminal law enforcement.
• Respond to emergencies and support investigations.
• Assist with special events and community policing efforts.

Job description

The Town of Beaufort is currently accepting applications for the position of full time Cadet Police Officer. The Police Department embraces the concept of community policing while providing police services to include traffic and criminal law enforcement, emergency response, investigations, and special events. The Department serves a public of approximately 4,300 permanent residents and a summer population that swells to over 10,000 residents, visitors and summer guests.

Candidates must complete a pre-hire process that will include a background investigation, physical and drug test. The selected candidate will also have to complete the Department’s orientation and field training program prior to permanent sworn assignment.

All applicants must be eligible for immediate placement in a Basic Law Enforcement Training program. All applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED and valid North Carolina driver’s license at the time of appointment. Applicants with previous law enforcement experience, advanced education or advanced training in criminal justice or related field are preferred.
