Job summary

The Town of Wrightsville Beach is now hiring for Police Officer I, II and Master Police Officer. The Town’s Police Department provides full police services to the community, including community policing, traffic and criminal law enforcement, emergency response, investigations and special events for a population of about 2,500 residents and a much larger summer population.

Qualifications

• State-mandated background and pre-hire process.
• Eligible for NC CJESTC certification or lateral transfer.
• Possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
• Applicants with 3+ years of law enforcement experience, advanced education or advanced training in criminal justice or related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Patrols streets in a police car or on foot; checks doors and windows; examines premises of unoccupied residences or buildings; reports hazardous conditions.
• Responds to calls for assistance, complaints, suspicious activity, domestic disputes, loud and disruptive behavior; determines the nature of the situation and takes appropriate action.
• Investigates traffic accidents; issues traffic citations; directs traffic and participates in emergency operations.
• Conducts initial investigations of accidents or possible crimes; questions witnesses; gathers evidence; makes arrests and presents findings in court.
• Issues citations for traffic violations; serves warrants; apprehends and processes suspects.
• Operates a two-way radio; maintains vehicles, weapons and equipment; ensures readiness.
• Prepares records and reports of activities.
• Advises the public on laws and local ordinances; serves papers as needed.
• Provides information and directions to visitors and the general public.
• Assists with emergency response activities including evacuation procedures and clean-up.

The Town of Wrightsville Beach is now hiring for Police Officer I, II and Master Police Officer.

The Town of Wrightsville Beach is currently accepting applications for Police Officer I, Police Officer II, and Master Police Officer positions. The police department provides full police services to the community, including community policing, traffic and criminal law enforcement, emergency response, investigations and special events. The department serves a public of approximately 2,500 permanent residents and a summer population that swells to over 25,000 residents, visitors and summer guests.

Major Duties:

• A. Patrols streets in a police car or on foot; checks doors and windows; examines premises of unoccupied residences or buildings; detects unusual conditions, may maintain surveillance and observation for stolen cars, missing persons or suspects; report dangerous or defective streets, sidewalks, traffic lights, or other hazardous conditions.
• B. Responds to calls for assistance, complaints, suspicious activity, domestic disputes, loud and disruptive behavior; completes calls by determining true nature of the situation and taking whatever legal or persuasive action is warranted.
• C. Investigates traffic accidents; issues traffic citation; directs traffic and participates in other emergency operation activities.
• D. Performs initial investigations of accidents or possible crimes through observation, questioning witnesses, and gathering physical evidence; performs investigative tasks, arrests and processes criminal suspects; presents findings in court.
• E. Issues citations for violation of traffic regulations, serves warrants; apprehends and processes criminal suspects and transports to detention facilities.
• F. Operates a two-way radio to receive instructions and information from or to report information to police headquarters; maintains vehicles, weapons and other equipment in standards working order.
• G. Prepare records and reports of activities.
• H. Advises the public on laws and local ordinances; serves papers as needed.
• I. Gives information and directions to visitors and the general public.
• J. Assists with emergency response activities of the town such as evacuation procedures and clean-up activities.

Qualifications:

• Selected candidates must successfully complete the state mandated background and pre-hire process, along with other evaluation processes required by the police department.
• Applicants must be eligible for immediate certification with N.C. Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission or eligible for lateral transfer if applying from another agency in North Carolina or out of state transfer.
• Possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license at the time of appointment.
• Applicants with 3+years of law enforcement experience, advanced education or advanced training in criminal justice or related field is preferred.
