Job description

Job Title: School Resource Officer - Nashville Police Department

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) is seeking current Police Officers with two (2) or more years of uninterrupted full-time law enforcement experience, certified through a State Police Standards and Training Commission. This posting specifically accepts lateral applications for our School Resource Officer Program, with multiple vacancies in Nashville Elementary Schools. Salary Range:

  • Step 3: $73,024.54 to Step 10: $89,810.96 (without education incentive)
  • With Associate's degree: $75,215.27 to $92,505.29
  • With Bachelor's degree: $77,406.01 to $95,199.62

The MNPD operates 24/7; employees must be able to work any day and shift as needed. Education incentives are available for qualified candidates, and pre-academy hiring opportunities may exist. Regular days off are Saturday and Sunday.

Responsibilities and Training:
  1. Complete a training program covering criminal law, firearms, first aid, traffic investigation, human relations, crime scene research, patrol procedures, departmental policies, report writing, and related areas. Physical training is optional.

  3. Basic SRO Certification
  4. D.A.R.E. Program
  5. Public speaking
  6. School and youth crime problem solving
  7. Conflict resolution
  8. Juvenile laws
  9. School disciplinary code
  10. Strategies for youth group impact on safety

Vacations are encouraged during late May to mid-August and holiday breaks. After-hours activities such as speaking engagements, sporting events, PTA meetings, and community presentations are expected.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least two (2) years as a full-time, certified law enforcement officer (P.O.S.T. or equivalent), with no more than 3 years since last service break
  • Valid Driver License
  • U.S. citizenship or legal resident with intent to apply for citizenship within 6 years
  • At least 21 years old
  • Successful completion of medical, psychological, criminal background checks, CVSA, drug testing, and FTO program
