Job Description and Requirements:

The Penn State University Police and Public Safety Department protects over 100,000 students, employees, and visitors across 22 campuses in Pennsylvania. We are seeking Act 120 Certified Police Officers who embody integrity, respect, responsibility, discovery, excellence, and community.

Responsibilities:
  • Protect life and property, maintain peace, and promote community engagement.
  • Enforce laws, university policies, and regulations through patrol, education, inspection, and enforcement.
  • Investigate and apprehend violators, ensuring legal compliance.
Qualifications:
  • Skills to foster respect for law enforcement and the university community.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and agencies.
  • Effective testimony skills for court.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, analytical, judgment, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Respect for constitutional rights.
  • High standard of conduct, abiding by laws and policies.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, up to one year of relevant experience.
  • Act 120 Certification (current, enrolled, or ability to obtain during hiring).

Knowledge of technology, investigations, social media, and surveillance is preferred.

Additional Requirements:
  • Successful background check.
  • BPAD scenario evaluation.
  • U.S. citizenship and minimum age of 21.
  • Fingerprint and criminal background checks.
  • Valid driver's license and motor vehicle records check.
  • Credit history check.

Please include a cover letter and resume. Starting salary is $65,395.20, with potential increases. The current contract expires June 30, 2028.
