Job description

Position Title: Police Officer

• Associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the University’s insurance carrier.
• Ability to pass a background check, psychological testing, and drug screening.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including keyboarding skills.
• Physical fitness and the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
• Ability to work and exercise good judgment in stressful situations.
• Ability to work independently.
• Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Desired Qualifications

• Current MCOLES Certification or pending Academy Graduation is preferred.

Additional Information

All qualifications, unless otherwise required by applicable collective bargaining agreements, are preferred. Qualifications, degrees, and/or experience deemed comparable and/or equivalent by Oakland University in its sole discretion may be considered.

Position Purpose

The Oakland University Police Department is a fully sworn law enforcement agency authorized to employ full-time police officers from state-certified police academies. The department offers special assignments including evidence technicians, Field Training Officers (FTOs), Bike Patrol, Firearms Instructors, and various Community Engagement activities.

The department is currently seeking qualified applicants for full-time police officer positions. Under the supervision of the Chief of Police, officers are responsible for ensuring the service, safety, and security of all university properties, faculty, staff, students, guests, and visitors during their shifts.
