Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Police, and assigned under the direct supervision of Sergeants and the Lieutenant, the Police Officer is responsible for all general uniform police operations, which may place the employee's life or personal safety at risk. Operations include patrolling the City of Draper to prevent or detect crime, enforce laws and ordinances, respond to threats to public safety, make emergency decisions, and provide community protection.

Essential Functions

• Patrol all areas of Draper City in police vehicles or on foot, checking for security issues and illegal activities.
• Respond to calls for assistance, secure crime scenes, investigate, interrogate, complete reports, and assist with investigations, including making arrests as warranted.
• Control traffic, enforce traffic laws, direct traffic, assist motorists, issue citations, investigate accidents, and prepare necessary reports.
• Serve processes, notices, summons, and subpoenas, keep records, escort prisoners, and subdue unruly prisoners when necessary.
• Complete reports of daily activities, prepare for court, and testify as needed.
• Maintain firearms, vehicles, and equipment.
• Perform public relations to enhance the department's image.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Entry-level or lateral experience.
• Applicants who graduated from a Utah P.O.S.T. approved academy or out-of-state officers who passed the waiver process are preferred. Current academy attendees will be considered.
• Valid Utah driver license.
• Pass annual physical fitness test.
• Complete FTO training and EVO certification during probation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Knowledge of law enforcement principles, laws, and procedures.

- Skills in using firearms, police vehicles, and specialized equipment.

- Strong interpersonal skills, objectivity, integrity, effective communication, stress management, problem-solving, and legal knowledge related to law enforcement.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Must pass annual physical fitness test. Work generally performed in controlled environments but subject to weather extremes and hazards. Physical mobility, strength, and mental alertness are required to perform duties effectively.
