Position Announcement
Utah Valley University seeks adjunct applicants to teach in the Police Academy.
Summary of Responsibilities
The successful candidate will perform some or all of the following duties:
- Design and teach courses in the field of study.
- Plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught.
- Prepare instructional materials (course outlines, syllabi, exams, mock-ups, visual aids, and instruction sheets) as necessary.
- Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in classrooms and laboratories using appropriate teaching methods.
- Evaluate instruction and learning through appropriate testing methods.
- Maintain a student-oriented approach to education.
- Recommend students for advancement and graduation.
- Maintain and submit accurate reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.
- Coordinate cooperative work experience programs and students as assigned.
- Assist counselors, department chairperson, program coordinator, faculty, and staff in maintaining an effective program.
- Be familiar with and adhere to the academic freedom and professional responsibility policies.
- Maintain desirable and safe laboratory and classroom conditions.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Must hold a current law license to teach in the Police Academy.
- Must be employed as a full-time Law Enforcement Officer.
- Possess POST Instructor Development certification with endorsement by immediate supervisor and agency administrator.
- Defensive Tactics and/or Firearms Instructor certification preferred; a Team Lead endorsement for specific groups (Scenarios, Firearms, Physical Training, Defensive Tactics) is advantageous.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of subject matter, course content, instructional strategies, and techniques.
- Strong knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation.
- Expertise in instruction evaluation, curriculum and program development, and assessment.
- Thorough understanding of the relevant field of study.
- Knowledge of counseling and advising techniques.
- Effective human relations and communication skills.
- Proficiency in public speaking and report writing.
- Ability to apply general principles effectively to specific conditions.
- Ability to follow written and oral procedures and instructions.
- Ability to work effectively with people.
