Job description

Provides comprehensive logistical, quartermaster, procurement, inventory, equipment-readiness, and administrative support for the Georgetown Police Department. The Police Logistics Technician coordinates the acquisition, receipt, storage, issuance, tracking, maintenance, replacement, and disposition of uniforms, protective equipment, technology, supplies, and other department assets. The position works closely with sworn and civilian personnel, City departments, vendors, and service providers to ensure critical equipment is available, accountable, compliant, and operationally ready.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manages the department's quartermaster and logistics functions, including procurement, receiving, inventory control, secure storage, issuance, return, replacement, and authorized disposition of uniforms, equipment, supplies, and assigned assets.
  • Maintains accurate electronic and physical inventory records; tracks employee-assigned equipment; conducts audits and reconciliations; and forecasts inventory, replacement, and supply needs.
  • Purchases and issues uniforms, body armor, duty gear, safety equipment, radios, body-worn cameras, less-lethal devices, and other operational equipment in accordance with City requirements, department policy, contracts, and applicable regulations.
  • Monitors equipment life cycles, warranties, maintenance schedules, expiration dates, replacement plans, and repair needs; coordinates repairs and verifies equipment is safe and serviceable before reissue.
  • Maintains required records and supports accountability and compliance for controlled, sensitive, and safety-related equipment and law-enforcement assets.
  • Researches equipment, technology, vendors, pricing, specifications, and industry developments; assists with product testing and evaluation and makes recommendations regarding standardization, replacement, and future purchases.
  • Coordinates with Finance, Purchasing, Fleet, Information Technology, department supervisors, and vendors regarding purchasing, budgeting, invoicing, asset management, fleet equipment, and operational readiness.
  • Assists with budget monitoring and forecasting; prepares purchase orders, work orders, supporting documentation, and related logistics and asset-management records.
  • Provides logistical support for special events, emergency operations, major incidents, training activities, and other department operations by ensuring required supplies and equipment are available and deployable.
  • Prepares and maintains reports, inventories, replacement schedules, procedures, and statistical information; reviews logistics-related practices and recommends improvements to accountability, readiness, efficiency, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Provides responsive service to sworn and civilian employees; maintains effective working relationships with City departments, vendors, partner agencies, and the public; and maintains the confidentiality and security of sensitive records and equipment.
  • Performs minor equipment adjustments or repairs within established training and authorization; operates a City vehicle to transport equipment and supplies as needed; and performs other duties as assigned consistent with the purpose and level of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, training, and Experience Guidelines
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in inventory control, warehousing, purchasing, logistics, asset management, equipment management, law-enforcement support, or a closely related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting law-enforcement, public-safety, military, municipal, or other regulated operational environment.
  • Experience with public-sector purchasing, inventory/asset-management systems, vendor coordination, budget tracking, or police equipment and uniforms.
  • Experience handling controlled, sensitive, or safety-critical equipment and maintaining auditable chain-of-accountability records.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of inventory control, asset management, purchasing, receiving, distribution, and records-management practices.
  • Knowledge of basic procurement, budgeting, contracts, and fiscal-control principles.
  • Knowledge of law-enforcement equipment and supplies, or the ability to quickly develop such knowledge.
  • Skill in maintaining accurate records, reconciling inventory, identifying discrepancies, and forecasting supply and replacement needs.
  • Skill in researching and evaluating products, pricing, specifications, warranties, and vendor information.
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office, inventory or asset-management systems, purchasing systems, databases, and related technology.
  • Ability to organize multiple priorities, meet deadlines, communicate effectively, work independently, and exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive information and equipment.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
  • Must maintain a driving record that meets City requirements.
  • Must obtain and maintain any department-required training or certifications related to assigned equipment, inventory systems, or safety procedures.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Work is performed in office, stockroom, warehouse, and departmental environments, with occasional travel to City facilities, vendors, or other locations.
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, and moving equipment and supplies.
  • Must be able to safely lift and move equipment and supplies associated with assigned duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • May occasionally work outdoors or in areas subject to varying temperatures, noise, dust, and other conditions associated with storage, fleet, or operational environments.
  • May be required to work outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, or during emergency operations.

Candidates selected to move forward in the review process will be required to complete fingerprint screening to confirm eligibility for Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance, in addition to the standard pre-employment process.

Hiring Range: $24.61 - $30.83, hourly.
