Job summary

The City of Goodyear is seeking an experienced police leader to supervise Patrol and Investigations divisions or the Office of the Chief. The ideal candidate will command on major incidents, assess risk, and lead a team of Sergeants, Officers, and civilian staff.

Required are AZPOST certification, 8+ years in law enforcement with 3 years as Sergeant, and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. The role emphasizes leadership, mentorship, and effective communication to improve public safety

Qualifications

Active AZPOST certification in good standing.
8 years of law enforcement experience with 3 years as a Sergeant.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Strong grasp of leadership theory and concepts.
Humility, teamwork, mentorship and problem-solving abilities.
Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

Oversee Patrol and Investigations divisions, or Office of the Chief, with supervision of Sergeants, Officers and civilian staff.
Command police activities at large incidents, emergencies, or civil disturbances.
Plan and direct patrol operations, budget considerations, and staff development.
Respond to citizen complaints and investigate administrative or criminal matters.
Participate in budget development, city policies, and performance evaluations.
