Job summary

The City of Long Beach seeks an experienced Personnel Administrator to join the Police Department’s leadership team. This role oversees personnel operations, payroll, recruitment, and training across a large, multi-union workforce.

The ideal candidate will drive labor relations, advise on policies and agreements, and coordinate with City partners to improve processes while maintaining compliance with Civil Service rules and state/federal requirements.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in personnel-related duties of a complex nature.
  • 1+ year of supervisory experience; labor relations and payroll services experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, or a related field; substitution allowed for management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee labor relations, recruitment, training, employee relations, payroll operations, and personnel administration for a large police department.
  • Direct and manage complex human resources operations across multiple divisions and union contracts.
  • Advise leadership on personnel policies, Civil Service rules, and MOU requirements; ensure compliance and process improvements.
