Job summary

The City of Oxnard Police Department is seeking a Police Commander to direct and supervise activities across assigned divisions. This role coordinates with other city programs and outside agencies, providing high-level staff support and ensuring adherence to laws, policies, and department goals.

The Commander leads patrol, investigations, and administrative operations, develops training, manages budgets, and fosters community policing initiatives.

Qualifications

• Possess the equivalent of two (2) years as a Police Sergeant with the City of Oxnard.
• A Bachelor's degree in police science, business, public administration or related field (must be attached to your application).
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class C California driver's license.
• Possess a valid POST Supervisory Certificate (Must be attached to your application).
• Current City of Oxnard Police Department Employee.

Responsibilities

• Directs, coordinates, and supervises the activities and operations of one or more assigned activities within the Police Department.
• Coordinates activities with other police divisions, City programs, and outside agencies or organizations.
• Plans, coordinates and reviews the work plan for assigned projects and responsibilities; provides administrative and technical direction to sworn and non-sworn staff.
• Oversees training and evaluation programs for personnel; handles staff deficiencies and discipline procedures; prepares staff reports and agendas.
