Job summary

The City of Edina Police Department seeks a part-time Police Cadet to support all divisions. The uniformed apprentice role offers learning opportunities and mentorship, with a two-year maximum appointment and tuition assistance to pursue POST eligibility upon successful progression.

Cadets perform detention duties, assist officers, and gain experience in traffic control, reporting, and field operations while maintaining eligibility for promotion based on department standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; enrollment in college is mandatory at hire.
• Must be enrolled and maintain required GPA and progress toward POST eligibility.
• Must pass background checks and medical screenings as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Enforce ordinances and statutes related to animals, parking, health, and nuisance issues.
• Perform detention duties including booking, searching, and processing prisoners.
• Provide traffic control or perimeter security as assigned.
• Safely operate department vehicles and assist in fleet maintenance.
• Assist in recovery and inventory of lost or confiscated property.
• Prepare accurate reports and perform other duties as assigned.
• Support officers and investigations with additional operational tasks.
