The City of South St. Paul is seeking applications for the position of Police Cadet. This entry-level role involves attending a Professional Peace Officer Education program while performing non-sworn duties related to law enforcement. Candidates must meet specific educational and background requirements and commit to a two-year service obligation upon becoming a police officer.
The Civil Service Commission of the City of South St. Paul is accepting applications for the position of Police Cadet. The city anticipates hiring up to two Cadets immediately, with additional opening(s) being filled in the following months. The initial hiring process will move very quickly, and this expedited hiring process will consist of panel interviews set to take place on July 9th and / or July 10th followed by background and standard medical and psychological assessment for select applicants.This is an entry level non-sworn position in the Police Department. Primarily the employee will attend an assigned Professional Peace Officer Education (PPOE) program to obtain eligibility for licensure to serve as a Peace Officer in the State of Minnesota. In addition to attending school, the employee may attend training opportunities at the police department, participate in ride-alongs, and perform non-sworn police related tasks as time allows. Work is performed under the supervision of the assigned supervisor. This assignment is not to exceed the time needed to complete the required PPOE program and upon completion is intended to attain POST licensing and transfer to a full-time police officer for the City of South St. Paul. All tuition and equipment costs are paid for by the City of South St. Paul and candidates are subject to an employment contract for up to two years.
