The Minneapolis Police Department seeks dedicated Police Cadet candidates who are committed to public service and meet qualifications including a degree and a clear background check. The program aims to train future Police Officers and includes medical, physical, and psychological testing, ensuring readiness for law enforcement duties.

The Minneapolis Police Department is looking for Police Cadet candidates—people who have a strong sense of commitment to public service, outstanding character, sound judgment, excellent work ethic, effective oral and written communication skills, interpersonal tact, empathy, and compassion.
Our Police Cadet program is designed to educate and train future Police Officers. Police Cadets will attend and successfully complete a program in law enforcement at a department-approved institution to meet the academic and technical skills requirements of the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Board.
This position currently works on-site only.

Exposure to hazardous conditions and life-threatening situations.
Bachelor's or Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university completed by the start date of the Cadet Academy (August 25, 2025).
Candidates must be deemed medically and psychologically fit and pass a drug and alcohol screening prior to hire. The position requires physical ability to run, chase suspects, wrestle, jump, crawl, lift up to 25 pounds, and have close distance vision with the ability to adjust focus.
Candidates unable to complete any portion of the process will not be eligible to proceed. The process includes background checks, interviews, and assessments scheduled from March through August 2025, with the academy beginning on August 25, 2025.
This position is represented by AFSCME. Eligible candidates will be placed on a list for employment consideration, which expires after six months.
