The City of Round Rock is inviting applications for a Police Cadet who will enter the Round Rock Police Department Training Academy to complete the Texas Basic Peace Officer curriculum and qualify for TCOLE certification.

Must pass all phases of the selection process including a comprehensive background and the physical performance test.
Applicant offered employment must pass a drug screening test and psychological and medical assessments.
The pay listed will be earned while in the Academy. After successful completion of the academy and upon assignment the rate will be $39.78.
High School Diploma or equivalent and one of the following:
Minimum of 30 college credit hours from an accredited university,
Two (2) years full-time employment as a non-sworn member of the Round Rock Police Department,
Two (2) years of full-time basic jailer experience, or
Two (2) years of active-duty military service in the US Armed Forces
By the start of the academy, you must be at least 20 years and 6 months of age.
Must be a United States citizen.
Must be able to complete the Basic Peace Officer curriculum at a regional law enforcement training academy and pass the TCOLE licensing examination to become a certified peace officer.
Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, an appropriate valid Texas driver’s license and a driving record with meets current City auto liability insurance requirements.
Step 1: Qualified applicants will submit an employment application via NEOGOV.
Step 2: Applicants will need to submit the Personal History Statement and Authorization to Release they receive no later than noon on 10/15/2026. Only applicants submitting a complete Personal History Statement will receive notice of the written test. Forms need to be emailed toTraining1@roundrocktexas.gov. Please make sure to download the documents using Adobe Reader to enable all interactive form fields.
Step 3: Upon initial review of the employment application and Personal History Statement, qualifying applicants will be invited to take the written exam. The written exam is scheduled for 9:00 am at the Round Rock Sports Center located at 2400 Chisholm Trail, Round Rock, TX 78681.
Step 4: Applicants who successfully pass the written exam will be invited to a Preliminary Board Interview. Passing applicants will be required to submit all required background documents as listed on the Personal History Statement immediately after their interview.

10/19 – Written Test *Testing begins at 9:00 a.m. CST.
10/26-10/30 – Preliminary Boards, PT Testing *Applicants who successfully pass the written exam will be scheduled for a Preliminary Board Interview the week of 10/26. Applicants traveling over 200 miles that have passed the written test may be scheduled for their Preliminary Board Interview and PT test the same afternoon.
10/30-11/30 – Background Investigations
11/30-12/04 – Commander Review
12/14-12/18 – Final Board/Chief’s Interview/PT Make-up/Offers
12/21-1/18/27 – Psych/Med Exams, Relocation, 2-week notice window
01/25/27 – Academy Start Date
