THE POSITION

5% cost of living increase effective July 2025 and July 2026

This recruitment is being conducted to fill two full-time vacancies in Patrol Operations. The list established by this recruitment may be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and temporary vacancies for up to one year.

The incumbent will perform civilian law enforcement support work in various divisions: traffic, patrol, evidence and property, or investigations. Responsibilities vary by division, including processing abandoned vehicle notices, investigating non-criminal auto accidents, crime scene processing, evidence handling, and follow-up investigations.

THE CITY OF VALLEJO

Vallejo, located in Solano County with approximately 121,000 residents, is a diverse waterfront community between San Francisco and Sacramento, known for its history, maritime heritage, and attractions like Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

SUPERVISION AND DUTIES

  • Receives general supervision from management or supervisory staff.

Key duties include supporting sworn personnel, processing crime scenes, managing evidence, conducting investigations, enforcing non-criminal city ordinances, and public engagement.

Knowledge of:

  • English language, office procedures, report writing, public interaction techniques.

Ability to:

  • Learn law enforcement organization, laws, and codes; operate office equipment; communicate effectively; maintain confidentiality; establish effective relationships.

Experience and Training:

  • Two years of public interaction and law interpretation experience; criminal justice agency experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. with law enforcement training.
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one.

Working Conditions

Office and inspection environments with physical activity such as climbing, stooping, and light lifting.

Recruitment & Selection

  1. Applications due by 5:00 P.M. on May 26, 2025, via online submission with all responses completed.
  2. Screening the week of May 26, 2025; qualified candidates will be invited for a written exam.
  3. Written exam scheduled for the week of June 16, 2025; passing score of 70% required.
  4. Qualified candidates will proceed to an advanced exercise and oral interview, scheduled for the week of July 7, 2025. These are weighted at 100% for scoring. Candidates with 70% or higher will be placed on the eligible list for up to one year.

Note: The City may limit the number of candidates based on qualifications and application materials.

Final candidates will be referred for department interviews at discretion.
