The Police Officer (Entry) works under supervision, performing various law enforcement duties including protecting life and property, enforcing laws, conducting investigations, crime prevention, and special assignments such as community policing, SWAT, K-9, detective work, and more.
Candidates should understand modern policing issues, practices, and trends, possess excellent communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to interact with diverse communities. Graduation from a POST-certified academy within the last 12 months is highly desirable.

Vallejo, located in Solano County with about 121,000 residents, is a diverse, historic waterfront community midway between San Francisco and Sacramento. It offers cultural attractions, parks, and is home to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.
This is an entry-level and first safety class position, performed under general supervision, with rotational assignments across various police functions. It requires a POST certification or recertification within the last three years and is distinguished from lateral officers by experience requirements.
Receives general supervision from supervisory and management staff.
Knowledge of law enforcement terminology, ability to act with integrity, understand laws, communicate effectively, and demonstrate physical fitness. Education requirements include a high school diploma or GED, and graduation from a POST-certified academy within the last three years or recertification. Valid California driver’s license, P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate, and U.S. citizenship are required. No felony or disqualifying misdemeanor convictions.
Candidates must demonstrate competence in key job dimensions, maintain personal conduct standards, and may need to reattend the police academy if certification is over a year old without recent experience.
