Job summary

Rutgers University is seeking a Special Poison Information V within the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System/Preventive Medicine and Community Health at NJMS. The role handles telephone management of exposed patients, provides care guidance, triages, and offers poison information while covering calls on the AIDS/STD Hotline.

The position requires rotation across day, evening, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays, on-site.

Qualifications

• Candidates must be a Nurse, Pharmacist, or Physician.
• Successful completion of all orientation programs.
• Related experience and/or education may be substituted for the requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Responds to telephone calls regarding appropriate care and treatment for acute poisoning and toxic exposures.
• Demonstrates understanding of principals of toxicology when suggesting patient management or providing poison information.
• Specialists will acquire the skills to operate the telephone system, microcomputers and their peripherals and the backup systems.
• Obtains a complete history specific to each call.
• Properly assesses the severity of calls to the poison center and properly decides on follow up.
• Listens well and allows caller to define the problem to efficiently manage and coordinate care.
