Job summary

Sofidel America in Lewiston, ID is seeking a Production Manager for its Papermill division to lead daily paper production, ensure efficiency, quality, and safety, and drive continuous improvement across tissue operations.

You will supervise 3 Tissue Machines, mentor staff, manage resources, control inventory, and participate in budgeting and capital projects. Strong knowledge of papermaking, lean manufacturing, and data-driven decision making is required; shifts may include evenings/weekends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in paper science, engineering, or a related field.
• 2 years’ experience in paper manufacturing, with supervisory or management experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of papermaking processes, equipment, and quality control.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day paper production operations for 3 Tissue Machines, including stock preparation, papermaking, coating, and chemicals to meet production targets and quality standards.
• Lead, coach, and mentor production staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Efficiently allocate resources, including manpower, equipment, and materials, to optimize production output and minimize downtime.
• Ensure products meet quality standards and customer expectations by implementing quality control measures.
• Promote and enforce safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
• Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements using lean practices.
• Manage raw materials and finished goods inventory to maintain optimal stock levels and minimize waste.
• Assist in budgeting and monitoring department costs to meet production goals.
• Oversee capital improvements on tissue machines and stock preparation areas, including budgeting, project management, vendor management, and safety.

As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Production Manager for our Papermill division in Lewiston, ID. The Production Manager will be responsible for managing the daily activities of the paper production process, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety standards are met. This role requires a strong background in paper manufacturing processes, team leadership, and process improvement.

Job Responsibilities

• Production Oversight: Oversight for 3 Tissue Machines: Manage and oversee the day-to-day paper production operations, including stock preparation, papermaking, coating, and chemicals to meet production targets and quality standards.
• Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and mentor a team of production staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Resource Allocation: Efficiently allocate resources, including manpower, equipment, and materials, to optimize production output and minimize downtime.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure that paper products meet or exceed quality standards and customer expectations by implementing quality control measures.
• Safety Compliance: Promote and enforce safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements. Implement best practices and lean manufacturing principles.
• Inventory Management: Manage raw materials and finished goods inventory to maintain optimal stock levels and minimize waste.
• Budget Management: Assist in the development and management of the department's budget, controlling costs while meeting production goals.
• Capital Projects: Oversee all capital improvements on tissue machines and stock preparation areas. This includes submitting approval, budgeting, project management, vendor management and safety.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in paper science, engineering, or a related field.
• 2 years’ experience in paper manufacturing, with some experience in a supervisory or management role preferred.
• Strong knowledge of papermaking processes, equipment, and quality control.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.
• Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance.
• Proficiency in using computer software for production planning and reporting.
