Job summary

Sofidel America in Lewiston, ID is seeking a Process Technician to support efficient manufacturing operations, maintain production data, manage chemicals, and assist with process improvements. You will work closely with operations, engineering, and vendors to ensure product quality and accurate reporting.

The role requires 4+ years in manufacturing or related fields, with strong data handling, SOP adherence, and familiarity with SAP/DV/PI Vision.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 4+ years of experience in manufacturing, quality control, laboratory testing, papermaking, chemical processing, or related industrial environment.
  • Ability to safely collect samples (up to 50 lbs.) and perform routine laboratory and process testing.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, process variability, and quality control principles.
  • Ability to follow SOPs, test methods, sampling plans, and safety requirements.
  • Proficient in data entry and Excel or similar software.
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to identify and communicate process or quality concerns.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and call-ins as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare daily and monthly production and utility reports.
  • Enter and maintain production data in SAP BW and EMSx.
  • Support grade development trials, production reporting, and specification management.
  • Monitor daily chemical usage and maintain inventory records.
  • Order chemicals and track deliveries and inventory in SAP.
  • Coordinate chemical trials, planning, logistics, testing, and reporting.
  • Manage chemical vendor relationships and support regulatory compliance.
  • Process chemical work orders, maintain documentation, and update chemical records.
  • Collect and analyze process data to support optimization efforts.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining process standards.
  • Manage and support small process improvement projects.

Position Overview Sofidel America of Lewiston, ID is currently seeking a Process Technician. We are searching for a dynamic candidate that is local to the area and is looking for a long term role in a stable environment. Your expertise will make you an important part of our team! The Process Technician supports efficient manufacturing operations by maintaining production and chemical data, coordinating inventory and process activities, and assisting with continuous improvement initiatives. This role works closely with operations, engineering, and vendors to support product quality, optimize processes, and ensure accurate reporting and documentation.

Job Responsibilities
  • Production & Utility
    • Prepare daily and monthly production and utility reports.
    • Enter and maintain production data in SAP BW and EMSx.
    • Support grade development trials, production reporting, and specification management.
  • Chemical Management
    • Monitor daily chemical usage and maintain inventory records.
    • Order chemicals and track deliveries and inventory in SAP.
    • Coordinate chemical trials, including planning, logistics, testing, and reporting.
    • Manage chemical vendor relationships and support regulatory compliance.
    • Process chemical work orders, maintain documentation, and update chemical records.

Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 4+ years of experience in manufacturing, quality control, laboratory testing, papermaking, chemical processing, or a related industrial environment.

  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, process variability, and quality control principles.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), test methods, sampling plans, and safety requirements.
  • Proficient in basic math, data entry, and using Excel or similar laboratory/process software.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and communicate process or quality concerns.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and call‑ins as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree, technical certificate, or coursework in industrial process technology, pulp and paper technology, chemistry, laboratory science, instrumentation, or a related field.
  • Experience in pulp, paper, tissue, nonwoven, converting, chemical, or other continuous-process manufacturing operations.
  • Knowledge of tissue manufacturing systems, stock preparation, wet‑end processes, papermaking chemicals, and TAPPI test methods.
  • Experience with industrial control systems, laboratory information systems, PI Vision, DeltaV, SAP, Microsoft Office (especially Excel), or similar software.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience developing technical documentation, SOPs, and reports.

Work Environment
  • Frequently stand, walk, climb stairs, bend and move throughout an operating tissue mill.
  • Lift and carry samples, testing equipment, chemicals, and supplies weighing up to approximately 50lbs.
  • Wear required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, gloves, etc.
  • Work in areas that may be hot, humid, wet, noisy, dustry, or exposed to chemicals and pulp or tissue fibers.
  • Safely access sampling points located near production equipment, platforms, tanks & pipes.
