Job summary

ColonialWebb is seeking a Plumbing Mechanic - Construction to assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures for heating, water, and drainage systems in accordance with plumbing codes. You will read plans, follow safety rules, and coordinate with foremen on project sites.

The role requires strong hands-on skills, a minimum of four years of industry experience, and the ability to work independently or with a crew to deliver quality, on-time installations.

  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to maintain a sense of urgency and remain calm when working toward deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain strict adherence to all company safety rules, regulations, procedures and practices
  • Study building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations
  • Survey structure to identify obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe
  • Locate and mark position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors using necessary tools
  • Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools
  • Cut and thread pipe, using necessary tools
  • Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals and nonmetals
  • Join pipes by use of proper supplies
  • Fill pipe system with water or air and read pressure gauges to identify possible leaks
  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, water closets, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, water softeners
  • Work safely, encourage others to do so, and comply with applicable health and safety-related rules
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Plumbing Mechanic - ConstructionThe primary responsibility of the Plumbing Mechanic is to assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes. The Mechanic reports to the Foreman or Superintendent.

A Day in the Life:
  • Maintain strict adherence to all company safety rules, regulations, procedures and practices

  • Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools
  • Cut and thread pipe, using necessary tools (i.e., pipe cutters, port-a-band saw, reciprocating saw, torch, pipe-threading machine)
  • Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals such as iron, steel, brass, and copper, and nonmetals such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic, using hand tools and power tools
  • Join pipes by use of proper supplies (i.e., screws, fittings, solder, brazing, grooving, plastic solvent)
  • Fill pipe system with water or air and read pressure gauges to identify possible leaks
  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, water closets, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, water softeners, and other fixtures as required
  • Work safely, encourage others to do so, and comply with applicable health and safety-related rules, regulations, and procedures and practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
You Should Have:
  • Possess at least four years industry experience
  • Possess knowledge of BOCA and OSHA safety regulations
  • Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy
  • Ability to direct crews to install work safely with quality and efficiency
  • Ability to make decisions with information on hand
  • Ability to communicate and deal effectively with teammates in other trades
