Job summary

ColonialWebb is seeking a skilled plumber/MEP technician to assemble, install, maintain, and repair piping systems per project specs and codes. The role covers medical gas and lab systems with strict regulatory compliance. You will typically report to the Foreman or Assistant Superintendent.

Qualifications

  • At least four years of piping/MEP field experience.
  • Knowledge of BOCA and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Ability to follow plans and install with accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork.
  • Willingness to work safely under deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Study building plans and determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
  • Locate and mark positions for pipe connections and passage holes.
  • Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe fittings.
  • Assemble, install and maintain valves, pipe fittings, and pipes.
  • Join pipes using screws, fittings, solder, brazing, grooving, or solvents.
  • Fill pipe system with water or air and read pressure gauges for leaks.
  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks and water heaters.
  • Work safely and comply with health and safety rules and practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job description

The primary responsibility is to assemble, install, maintain, and repair piping systems, fittings, and fixtures associated with heating, water, and drainage systems in accordance with project specifications and all applicable plumbing codes. Perform all piping for medical gas and laboratory/hospital systems in strict compliance with their respective codes and regulatory standards. The Mechanic typically reports to the Foreman or Assistant Superintendent.

A Day In The Life
  • Maintain strict adherence to all company safety rules, regulations, procedures and practices
  • Study building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations
  • Survey structure to identify obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe
  • Locate and mark position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors using necessary tools (i.e., ruler, spirit level, and plumb bob)
  • Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools
  • Cut and thread pipe, using necessary tools (i.e., pipe cutters, port-a-band saw, reciprocating saw, torch, pipe-threading machine)
  • Assemble, install and maintain valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals such as iron, steel, brass, and copper, and nonmetals such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic, using hand tools and power tools
  • Join pipes by use of proper supplies (i.e., screws, fittings, solder, brazing, grooving, plastic solvent)
  • Fill pipe system with water or air and read pressure gauges to identify possible leaks
  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, water closets, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, water softeners, and other fixtures as required
  • Work safely, encourage others to do so, and comply with applicable health and safety-related rules, regulations, and procedures and practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
You Should Have
  • Possess at least four years industry experience
  • Possess knowledge of BOCA and OSHA safety regulations
  • Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy
  • Ability to direct crews to install work safely with quality and efficiency
  • Ability to make decisions with information on hand
  • Ability to communicate and deal effectively with teammates in other trades
  • Ability to communicate professional and effectively with customers
  • Ability to work easily and skillfully with hands
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and willing to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervisionAbility to maintain a sense of urgency and remain calm when working toward deadlines
