Job summary

City of Southfield invites applications for a Plumbing Inspector/Plan Examiner to review plans for compliance with Michigan Plumbing Code and city codes and to inspect on-site installations. The role requires ACT 407 registration, strong knowledge of codes, and the ability to advise contractors and the public.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Must possess ACT 407 Plumbing Inspector / Plan Examiner registration from the State of Michigan.
• Experience in plumbing inspection sufficient to knowledge of rules, regulations, codes and ordinances governing plumbing and sewer systems.
• Ability to learn dedicated department program (BS&A).
• Sufficient analytical, cognitive and physical skills to perform essential functions.
• In-depth knowledge of Michigan Plumbing Codes and related standards.

Responsibilities

• Reviews plans, blueprints and specifications to ensure compliance with Michigan Plumbing Code, ICC A117.1 standards and City codes.
• Performs on-site inspections of plumbing systems to ensure proper installation and conformity to approved plans
• Attends pre-construction meetings with architects, engineers, owners and contractors.
• Advises plumbing contractors, builders and the public regarding plumbing codes, barrier free standards, permits, and the proper installation of materials, etc.
• Prepares correspondence, reports and maintains detailed records.
• Review sewer bid specifications for city sewer loan program.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.
