Job summary

Somerville High School is seeking a Long Term Substitute Plumbing Instructor to deliver high-quality CTE instruction in plumbing, preparing students for licensure, apprenticeships, and postsecondary pathways. The role combines classroom and lab work, emphasizes safety, industry standards, and professional workplace readiness.

You will develop lessons aligned with DESE CVTE Frameworks, collaborate with staff and industry partners, and support the HVAC program as needed.

Qualifications

• Hold or be eligible to obtain Massachusetts DESE Vocational Technical Teacher License in Plumbing (License 74).
• Minimum of five years of full-time employment in plumbing trade.
• Massachusetts Journeyman Plumber License required; Master Plumber License preferred.
• Passing score on DESE-required tests for licensure.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging classroom and laboratory instruction aligned with CVTE Frameworks and district curriculum.
• Teach plumbing theory, safety procedures, codes, and industry best practices for licensure and employment.
• Develop and implement lessons with demonstrations, hands-on activities, assessments, and differenti ated strategies.
• Maintain safe, organized classrooms and labs, promoting professionalism and respect.
• Ensure compliance with plumbing codes and OSHA standards; assess learning and provide feedback.
• Prepare students for success in the plumbing trade and licensure requirements.
• Collaborate with HVAC program and industry partners to support student outcomes.
• Participate in meetings, curriculum development, and professional development.
